Terms and conditions

For the GaneshUtsav app (com.ragnar.GaneshUtsav on Android, com.ragnar.ganeshUtsav on iOS). Last updated 2 September 2026.

1. Accepting these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and the individual developer who builds and runs GaneshUtsav. By installing the app, signing in or using it, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

The app is not a company product. It is not affiliated with any mandal, trust, government body, bank or payment provider. The privacy policy forms part of these terms and describes what the app stores and why.

The rules of the store you installed the app from, Google Play or the Apple App Store, apply to you as well, alongside these terms.

2. What the app is

GaneshUtsav is a record keeping app for a sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandal. Used as intended, it lets a mandal:

• record vargani and issue a numbered pavti as a PDF;
• record a vargani that was promised but not yet paid;
• record expenses under a category, with a photograph of the bill;
• keep a list of karyakartas and the post each one holds;
• see the jama, the kharch and the balance, and export five reports as CSV;
• work with no network, the entries syncing once there is signal again.

3. What the app is not

The app is also not any of the following.

• An accountant or an auditor. It adds up what is entered into it. It cannot know whether an entry is right, and it does not check your figures against anything.
• A legal filing. If your mandal is registered, its obligations to the Charity Commissioner, to the registrar or to anyone else are unchanged. A report exported from the app is a working document, not a filing, and not a certified statement.
• A receipt authorised by any authority. The pavti carries whatever your mandal put into the app. Whether it satisfies a donor, an auditor or a tax rule is your mandal's judgment, not ours.
• A backup service. See section 11.

4. Your account

You sign in either with a Google account or with an email address and a password that you set. You are responsible for keeping that sign in to yourself. Anything done through your account counts as done by you.

The app is meant for adults who run a mandal's accounts. Do not use it if you are under 13, and do not enter a child's personal details into it.

One person may belong to more than one mandal. Each mandal's records stay separate from every other mandal's.

5. Your mandal and the join code

The person who registers a mandal in the app is its founder for these purposes. They set its name, its details and its posts, and they are the only person who can ask for the whole mandal to be deleted.

6. Posts and permissions

What a member can do is decided by the post they hold, and it is enforced by the app and by the database rules behind it, not only by the buttons on screen.

• Only the adhyaksh, upadhyaksh and khajindar can add a donation or correct a receipt.
• Only the adhyaksh, sachiv and khajindar can record an expense.
• Every member of a mandal can read that mandal's records. That is deliberate: a mandal's accounts are meant to be visible to the mandal.

Only the adhyaksh and the khajindar sign a pavti, so only their uploaded signatures are printed on one.

7. Receipts and serial numbers

Every pavti takes the next serial number in the mandal's own series. The details on a receipt can be corrected afterwards by someone holding a signing post, but the serial number cannot be changed and a receipt cannot be removed on request, because that number has already been handed to a donor and the mandal's accounts are counted on it.

When a receipt is filed with no network, the app gives it a temporary number and marks it as temporary on screen. The final number is assigned once the phone reaches the server. Tell the donor this if you hand over a receipt in that state.

Once you share or print a pavti it leaves the app. What happens to it after that is outside our control.

8. What is your responsibility

Most of what this app holds is not about you. It is about donors and karyakartas, entered by you or by another member of your mandal. Your mandal decides what goes in and answers for it.

• Accuracy. Amounts, names, dates and categories are as correct as the person who typed them. Check the figures before you read them out at a meeting.
• Other people's details. Enter a donor's phone number only if the donor is willing to give it. The app never requires one, and a pavti is issued perfectly well without it. Do not enter anything a donor would not expect their mandal to write in its receipt book.
• Images you upload. A logo, a signature or a bill photograph must be yours to upload, or your mandal's.
• Requests from a donor. If a donor asks for their details to be removed, a signing officer can correct the receipt in the app, or you can write to us. The route is on the data deletion page.
• Your own obligations. Any registration, reporting, audit or tax duty your mandal has is yours, and using this app neither removes nor satisfies it.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to do any of the following.

• Use the app for anything unlawful, or to collect money by deception.
• Enter a mandal you have no connection with, or use a join code you were not given.
• Issue a pavti for money that was not received, or alter a record to misstate what a mandal collected or spent.
• Upload anything obscene, hateful, or belonging to someone else without their permission.
• Attempt to reach another mandal's records, break the database rules, take the app apart, or drive it with an automated tool.
• Click your own advertisements, or ask anyone else to, or use anything that generates advertisement traffic artificially.
• Put so much load on the service that it degrades for other mandals.

If a mandal or an account is used this way, we may suspend or remove access to it. Where the use is clearly harmful we may do so without notice.

10. Advertising and cost

The app is free. It carries advertisements supplied by Google AdMob, which is how it pays for itself.

On an iPhone there is one placement, at the head of the reports screen. On Android there are three: the same one on reports, and one at the head of the पावती list and of the खर्च list. Each sits at the top of its list, above the entries and not among them, and holds its space whether or not an advertisement arrives, so nothing you are reading moves under your thumb.

There is deliberately none on the home screen, none on any sheet where an amount is typed, and none on a receipt. A pavti is the mandal's record and the donor's copy of it, and nothing is sold against it.

What the advertising system collects, and how you can change your choices or reset your advertising identifier, is described in the privacy policy.

There is no paid version today. If a paid feature is ever added, it will be optional and it will be described here before it appears.

11. Backups and loss of data

Uninstalling the app removes the offline copy from your phone. It does not delete anything from the server, because the other members of your mandal still need those records.

12. Changes and availability

The app depends on services run by Google, and on your phone having a network at least some of the time. It may be unavailable, slow or partly broken, whether from a fault of ours, a fault at a provider, or maintenance. We do not promise any level of availability.

Features may be added, changed or removed. We may stop offering the app altogether. If that happens we will give notice on this site where we reasonably can, so a mandal has time to export its records.

13. No warranty

The app is provided as it is, and as it happens to be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, no warranty of any kind is given: not that it will be uninterrupted, not that it will be free of faults, not that it fits any particular purpose, and not that the figures it produces are correct for your mandal's purposes.

Nothing here takes away a right you have under consumer law that cannot be taken away.

14. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss of donations, loss of records, loss of profits, loss of reputation, a dispute with a donor, an auditor or an authority, or any indirect or consequential loss arising out of your use of the app.

The app is free, so where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to the amount you have paid for the app, which is nothing.

This does not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

15. Ending your use

You can stop using the app at any time. Signing out or uninstalling does not delete anything. Closing your account is a separate and deliberate step, and it is in the app: the account menu on the home screen ends with खाते कायमचे बंद करा. What that removes and what stays in the mandal’s books is on the data deletion page.

We may end your access if you break section 9, or if we stop offering the app. Sections 8, 13, 14 and 16 continue to apply afterwards.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If these terms change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
